Information Required and Instructions

Static IP address

A static IP address for the Wired Link of the Proxy which is always connected to the internet.

NetMask Address

NetMask Address provided by the ISP

Gateway Address

Gateway address as provided by the ISP

Broad Cast Address

Once we have all these we can know our Bcast Address

Example :

IP Address : 192.168.2.100 ( A public IP)

       Net Mask  : 255.255.255.0
       Gateway   : 192.168.2.13
       BCast       : 192.168.2.255

Unix Host Name

Unix Host Name for the Proxy  : proxy2
(This can be any name based on your choice)

Region Name

Region Name : reigon2
This is similar to the region name described earlier.

Organization Name

Organization Name : uw2
It is the same organization name as described earlier.

Domain Name

Domain Name : proxyuw.in
This allows the access to proxy from all over the world.

Domain which Proxy serves

What domain is this proxy serving? : reigon2.uw2.kiosknet.org
It is a sensitive entry. It is the region which Proxy serves. An example is shown above which means
it has to be <Region Name>.<Organization Name>.kiosknet.org

EID of the Proxy

At this point you will be given an EID of the proxy note it down carefully. During the installation of the Kiosk Controller you will be asked for the EID of the proxy.

Franchiser Credentials

You are asked for complete path of the franchiser credentials . (Authentication of the Franchiser is done by UW using this key. We give the Reigon Name and the Organization Name and get a *.tar or a zip file which is extracted. We give the path for the folder in the above entry.)

Proxy Credentials

A new folder “proxycredentials” is generated in the home directory and it also has a zip file (proxy2.reigon2_credentials.tgz) we need to unzip and also take a back up of that file because during the installation of the other components we will need it.

Connectivity and Testing

This completes the installation and the HDD is ready to be put into the Soekris box and tested.

Connect the Soekris box to a ethernet port which has that public IP and to a power supply also to a serial display for verification.

Any of the ethernet port eth0-eth9 may come up.The first boot takes some time due to initialization process. Later on the bootup process is quite fast

Logging In and Date & Time

Once the entire boot up has completed then login as “root” and password as “KioskNet”.

Log in to the system to set up the date and time of the system using the command below

Example
date -s 20080528

date -s 16:30
