Install Ubuntu

Vlink is tested on Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty). It should work on older Ubuntu releases.

Download and install Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty)  (http://releases.ubuntu.com/9.04/) on your system.

Installation and configuration of kiosknet-proxy

NOTE: if you want to re-install a fresh installation of kiosknet-proxy, you should first remove the old pre-existing installation by running the following command:

sudo apt-get remove --purge kiosknet-proxy

Adding the Vlink Repository

Run the following command:

sudo wget http://blizzard.cs.uwaterloo.ca/tetherless/ubuntu-port/vlink.list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/vlink.list
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 12EA8F47
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre

Installation and Configuration of kiosknet-proxy

Run the following command:

sudo apt-get install kiosknet-proxy

Answer to the questions you will be asked.

IP address

IP Address: If you like to disable TCPLink on Vlink give "0" when you are asked about the IP address, otherwise give the static IP address of Proxy (to find out the current IP address you can run ifconfig).

SMS cellphone number

SMS cellphone number: give 0 to disable the SMSLink.

At this point Vlink Proxy is installed. From the menu "Application->Accessories" run kiosknet-proxy to activate USBGuiManager.

Plug in a USB key copy /home/kiosknet/kiosknet_config.tgz on it, then to initiate USB key as USBLink. create a file with name ".kiosknet" on it.

NOTE: remember whenever you want to plug out USB you must first remove it from Vlink's USBGuiManager and then umount it using Ubuntu's GUI, if not the USB's driver may crash.

If you like to use omail follow the instruction of omail setup.

Omail setup

Run the following commands:

sudo apt-get install libssl-dev sendmail

After installation of the above packages ubuntu may force you to restart the computer. Restart and continue the following instructions:

sudo su -

Run the following commands as rood:

/bin/KioskNet/omail/cpan-setup.sh
/bin/KioskNet/omail/install-omail-service.sh
