Adding recycled PCs

To be able to boot off the kiosk controller, the recycled PC must have a PXE-enabled LAN card, and a BIOS that supports PXE. Most systems manufactured after 2002 support PXE.

Connect the recycled PC to the switch (or hub) to which the kiosk controller is connected. In the BIOS settings of the recycled PC, set the first boot device to be the LAN card. This only has to be done once.

Next time the recycled PC boots, you should see a screen that looks like this:

it should pause at a "boot:" prompt like this:

At this point, if you press "Enter", the recycled PC will boot off the kiosk controller and loads up Linux. If you want to boot off the local hard drive into whatever operating system installed on the local hard drive, type "local" and press "Enter". If you just press "Enter" (the default), then you should see this:

After several screens of text, you should get a login prompt like this:

The default login/password for the kiosk operator is
Username: admin
Password: KioskNet

After logging in, you will automatically be launched into the graphical user interface.
