Adding users to a kiosk

We'll assume that you have already started the user interface, as described in adding recycled PCs.

Once this is done, right-click on the background, and choose "Apps->Network->Mozilla Firefox" from the pop-up menu.

This will start Mozilla Firefox. In the address bar on top, type
http://192.168.1.1/index.html . This will put you into the Kiosk Management Console:

Click on the first entry (Use Webmin to add and delete users). You will get a warning, that you can ignore (just click OK)

When the web page loads, log in as admin. The default admin password is KioskNet.

Once you log into webmin, you will see the initial screen that looks like this:

Click on Users and Groups from the left frame. This will put you in a screen like this:

Then from the main frame, click "Create a new user". This will put you in a screen like this:

In this "Create User" page, enter username, Real name, password (choose "normal password" as shown) in the corresponding fields. Also, click on "Is KioskNet user", and select "New group with same name as user". Finally click the "Create" button at the bottom. It will take a few minutes for the user to be created. You know you are done when you can see the new user's name on this screen:

Before a new user can log into a terminal, remember that the terminal needs to be rebooted. This is a feature to ensure secure passwords. To reboot, simply exit from the X session, by right clicking on the background screen:

This will throw up a question: DSCN3382.jpg

Click on 'Kill' to end the session. You will get a screen prompt, where you should type 'exit' as shown:

This will stop the session and shutdown the machine:

You can then log in as the new user, with the login and password you specified. In a kiosk, of course, the login and password in the user creation screen SHOULD BE ENTERED BY THE USER not the kiosk owner. Otherwise, the kiosk owner can read the user's private information.
