| What is CHUG? | The Cornell High speed access User's Group is a cooperative (similar to Ecovillage or the Greenstar cooperative) that will offer high speed Internet access at home for members of the Cornell community. |
| Who is involved? | CHUG grew out of the efforts of Cornell faculty and staff members from the Business School, CIT, Theory Center, and Computer Science. We will provide this service in conjuction with Hybrid and CAI Wireless. |
| What will it cost? | There is an up front cost of $300 for antenna, modem down payment, and installation. Monthly pricing depends on how many people sign up. Roughly speaking, with 100 users, the cost will be $80/month. With 200 users, the cost drops to $50/month. Computer Science faculty, staff, and PhD students can obtain this service at a lower price. |
| How fast does it go? | The available speed is roughly 2Mbps downstream and 28.8 kbps upstream. This means that your network access at home is as fast as it is at Cornell (and sometimes, even faster!). |
| When can I have it? | With sufficient interest, we hope to begin offering service within the next four weeks (i.e., by mid-December). |
| Where can I get more details? | Read the CHUG FAQ. Then, if you want to sign up, fill in this form. |
